Participation Over Watching: Athletics

Looking for Activities and Clubs?

The athletic program at St. John Neumann Catholic High School is an extension of the classroom. Its philosophy is derived from the school’s mission statement.

We value athletics as an important life experience for all participants at SJNCHS, teaching and stressing: leadership, a quest for excellence on and off the field, teamwork, competition, and sportsmanship. The SJNCHS Athletic Department believes these 5 core values are what define the Neumann coach and student-athlete.

Core Values

Our coaches will be teachers of their sport in every sense of the term with emphasis on how the student-athlete grows and becomes a young adult of character, compassion, and conscience.

Our aim is:

    • To teach leadership rooted in Gospel values

Our philosophy is rooted in our school’s mission. We believe that our athletic program offers a teaching environment that is understood to be consistent with the overall educational philosophy of the school.

    • To teach balance that results in a quest for excellence in all phases of their lives

Our aim is to develop competitive student-athletes while not losing sight that the pursuit of academic excellence and ethical behavior comes first.

    • To teach the value of teamwork in reaching a common goal

Student-athletes will learn about shared values, mutual trust, inspiring vision, collaboration, and responsibility.

    • To teach a healthy attitude toward competition

Student-athletes will understand that the word “competitive” is derived from the Latin words meaning “to strive together.” At Neumann, we strive together as competitors, coaches, parents, and fans for excellence in all of our athletic endeavors.

    • To teach good sportsmanship

The Athletic Department works to develop and maintain the highest standards of courtesy, discipline, good sportsmanship, and the ability to act as good hosts and guests.
